Yitong Mum & Kids Chinese Course

This course aims to cultivate the child’s interest in learning and speaking Chinese in a complete Chinese speaking environment. The child is led unknowingly into a comprehensive method of learning Chinese, from basic to intermediate levels, through fun games, singing, and arts and craft. The materials provided cover pronunciation, reciting, recognition of words, story-telling, phrases and short sentences.

A parent has to accompany the child throughout the lessons.

COURSES FOR 4 YEARS OLD(N2)

Chinese Introductory Course

This course aims to nurture the child’s interest in learning Chinese in an all-rounded manner, and laying a foundation for systematic training in later stages. It uses various methods and games to create a highly energetic and happy environment for learning Chinese. The teachers incorporate a variety of activities including songs, stories, Tang peoms, “Standards for Being a Good Student, Child and Person” into the lessons and encourages a child to start forming sentences by looking at pictures, common phrases, and frequently used words, etc.

COURSES FOR K1 STUDENTS(5YEARS OLD)

Pre-school Chinese Course

This course aims to lay a firm foundation for the child to be a lifelong learner in Chinese through a systematic and professional approach. The child gets exposed to a wide variety of content including songs, stories, stroke writing, antonyms, quantifiers, tongue twisters, short sentences, character writing, etc.

Lesson time: 1.5 hours

COURSES FOR K2 STUDENTS(6YEARS OLD)(5YEARS OLD)

Chinese P1 Preparation

The preparation course lays a strong Chinese foundation for entry into primary school. It aims to help the child to have a full grasp of Hanyu Pinyin, frequently used phrases, grammar, antonyms, quantifiers, and the ability to use three to five sentences to describe a picture, etc. The child will also undergo overall training in listening, speaking, reading and writing.

Lesson time: 1.5 hours

COURSES FOR P1 – P2 STUDENTS(7-8YEARS OLD)

P1 Ignite!

10 lessons
3 hr / lesson
Hanyu Pinyin Familiarization with the usage of Hanyu Pinyin and able to get the correct tone for a repertoire of at least 100 Chinese basic Characters
1.5 hrs/lesson Oral: Able to express the story flow under the teacher’s guidance and show critical thinking in identifying undesirable versus commendable behavior.
Paper 2
Comprehension
Able to recognize and write often used words in the MOE textbooks and being able to independently understand comprehension passages, and under the teacher’s guidance, assimilate the meaning of the passages and answer the questions correctly in complete sentences

P2 Empower!

Composition
Understanding the structure and paragraphing in writing a composition and utilizing key words and idioms to craft a complete story. At the P2 level, the focus is getting a complete story out with a proper beginning and ending, and enhancing the narration with a light dose of descriptive words. This will lay the foundation for a higher standard of composition writing in P3
Oral: To be able to narrate the story confidently in sequence and appropriately expressing one’s views and feelings. Reciting a passage fluently with ease and answering questions confidently

Comprehension
Able to read and write the often used words in MOE textbooks. Able to read out loud a comprehension passage independently and to critically repeat the meaning of the passage and together with the teacher, conclude the moral of the story

COURSES FOR P3-P5 STUDENTS(9-11YEARS OLD)

P3 Strengthen!

From Primary 3 onwards, the examinations test a child’s overall grasp of the language. Therefore, Yuquan will prepare a child to handle the examinations deftly in composition, comprehension and oral. Our aim for the students at this level are as followed:

1.5 hrs/lesson Paper 1
Composition
Let the student clearly understand the examination process and key areas of importance. The composition is to be completed within the designated time utilizing various methodologies of writing, including but not limited to self-thoughts, dialogues and related ideas. Learn how to use descriptive phrases and idioms and understand “good phrases maketh a good essay”.
Oral: Fluently narrate the pictures in sequence, commending good behavior and critically point out the negative behavior, providing reasonable arguments and presenting own point of views and feelings.
1.5 hrs/lesson Paper 2
Comprehension
Confident grasp of the content in the textbooks. Master the techniques of completing sentences, matching phrases and answering comprehension passages. Able to express own thoughts after reading comprehension passages and critically identify the central theme.

Composition
Deftly utilizing memories, idiomatic phrases, characters, weather and similar techniques to start and end a composition. Able to observe more in detail and giving due description to key pictures. For details not shown, the student is able to express imaginatively the logical possibilities. Also importantly able to complete writing the much lengthened composition within the designated time
Oral: Recite the passage expressively and answering questions confidently. Able to give examples from daily observations to express own opinions.Able to express critically, logically and factually when looking at a picture.
1.5 hrs/lesson Paper 2
Comprehension
Firm grasp of the content in the textbooks, especially with forming grammatically correct sentences of key words. Understanding comprehension passages with ease and accuracy, able to summarise the central theme of the passage.

P5 Boost

1.5 hrs/lesson Paper 1
Composition
Able to grasp the technique of writing a composition given 6 pictures, utilizing Chinese idioms, imagination and other writing methodologies. Able to craft a captive beginning and ending and enable the reader to visualize the scenes in the story vividly and of course, completing the story within the designated time.
Oral: Able to draw examples from daily happenings in the society, express one’s opinions fluently with critical assessments and analysis, utilizing a wide repertoire of vocabulary.
1.5 hrs/lesson Paper 2
Comprehension
There is a big jump in the number of phrases and words that a student need to master in Primary 5, hence much focus would be on the reading and writing of these words and phrases, also the understanding and forming sentences with them. The student should also be able to improve in the overall grasp of the techniques in handling comprehension passages, with more critical thinking and logic reasoning, analyzing the characters’ personalities and reading in between the lines.

P6 Intensify!

Prepare the child in full battle gear for PSLE!

1.5 hrs/lesson Paper 1
Composition
Able to write a composition confidently within the designated time integrating different techniques and using a wide repertoire of vocabulary. Helping the child to plan the structure more efficiently.
Oral: To help the child prepare for the stress psychologically through a simulation of the actual environment in the oral examination. Be able to express one’s opinions fluently and critically but also to have the confidence to have a conversation independently and confidently with a teacher.
1.5 hrs/lesson Paper 2
Comprehension
Focus on tackling the key difficult areas in PSLE and revising the fundamentals. Enhancing the understanding of general knowledge topics that come out often in past papers.

The techniques of writing official and personal letters, emails, etc. Able to analyze and comment on newspaper articles. The understanding and comprehension of challenging topics in general knowledge.
Oral: To have an overall view of the topics discussed, give opinions and detailed analysis on current affairs. Rigorous training of critical assessments of important general knowledge topics.
Paper 2
Comprehension
Handling higher standards of comprehension passages with ease. Gaining mastery in topics that are often tested in O’Levels. Preparation through past years’ papers and moving towards the perfect assimilation of the Chinese language.
